Samba and HPUX performance problems?

Hei!
I have HPUX11/K210 with precompiled samba from samba.org (2.0.3).
The preformance is very poor :(
When copying files to server it takes quite long time to copy them
but the samba process is getting just 2% of otherwise idle cpu...
Also when I try to open Word file over samba it takes veeeery long time to
open the document (even very small ones).
This is something I haven't seen on any other samba platform. I also heard
some stories of similar performance problems with HPUX.
Are there known performance problems with HPUX? Any special
configuration changes that I should try?
We are not talking about some marginal performance problems but the CIFS
access is pretty much unusable... :(
But anyway it works. No error messages or anything like that. It is just
very slow.
Clients were W95 and samba configuration was very basic. Just bind samba
to NT-domain and add couple of shares.
