FreeBSD + samba 2.2.2 problems; semi-solution

I've been running -current as of January 7th or so.  I just tried an old
kernel from Oct 29th, and behavior was unchanged.  I'm going to cvsup and
rebuild the system tonight, though I doubt anything will change.  Results
will be reported.
