How do I deal with bug fixes on my platform

If I find a bug and fix it for my specific platform, what is the 'normal'
way to handle the release/version name?

For instance, I have turned over 2.0.7 to the vendor's software release
management team. If during the life of the product we discover a bug that
gets fixed they need to assign a new 'name' to this like 2.0.7a.

What is the normal practice?
