smbd - could'nt set effective gid to 100 msg

Gerald,
Thanks, and I can understand how busy supporting these things can get.
I understand what smbd is trying with the setgid, but I just can't figure
out why it's failing.
I'm running Slackware Linux, with Linux Kernel 2.0.37, and smbd version
2.0.3.
