password problem

I just recently set up Samba TNG 2.5.3. I compiled it and installed it to /opt/samba-tng, I created the password file (/opt/samba-tng/private/smbpasswd), got a conf file from http://www.kneschke.de/projekte/samba_tng, and started all the daemons. However, everytime I try to log onto the domain from windows 2000 or windows 98, or access shared folders from windows 2000 or windows 98, the username/password is always incorrect. My logs say that the password was invalid, even though I am sure the password I entered was correct. Any ideas?
