where did you read that it was supposed to work in 4.2? In samba 4.2 the 
winbind daemon used by default is the one coming from the 3.x serie 
(with all the improvements), and it not the one rewritten for the 4.x 
serie which shipped with 4.0 and 4.1. The winbind daemon from the 3.x 
serie has a better support for interdomain/interforest trust, but it 
does not make the whole thing trust enabled.

Actually that same question was asked just a few days ago on this same 
mailing list IIRC.
