[Samba] word XP problem

hi,

in my network i access files on a samba (3.0.10-Debian) with severals windows 
clients (X2K, XP pro) and ms office (2000, 2003, XP) on the lan and some VPN 
peers with out any problems. now i've setup a new VPN (built by a router not 
windows) peer with one XP home pc and office XP. i can open pdf's and 
excelfiles without any problems. as soon as i try to open a word file, word 
freezes. can some one please give me a hint ?
