[Samba] make is trying to mkdir private dir?

I've gotten further on getting samba-3.0.22 to compile. But for some
reason it's trying to "mkdir DIR", where DIR is what I put in for my
"--with-privatedir" directory. samba-3.0.14a didnt try to do this. Why
the change? And how can I get it to stop?
