[Samba] cupsaddsmb - problem; once again

Hi,

I am back and operational again -- don't know how much time I will have
for my "hobby" during the next days though.

Anyway -- saw your message on the Samba list (which I only consume in its
"digested" version). Please send your attachment to my e-Mail address --
it is not usable in the form I received it via the digest message.

I am using a selfcompiled (and "checkinstall"-ed) samba 2.2.6-pre2 on my
system, with success in relation to a "Mopier 320" (which is *very*
similar to your HP8000). I'll send you my setup (including PPD etc.)
later. (However, *some* drivers don't play nice with Samba, cupsaddsmb,
rpcclient/addprinter|adddriver|setdriver at all, and I am still in the
process of finding some pattern in that behaviour. My tests showed it
to be reproducible. It works with many original-vendor-PS-PPDs as well as
Foomatic-PPDs, and it doesn't with *some* original-vendor-PS-PPDs and
with some Foomatic-PPDs...)

BTW, the SuSE samba-2.2.5 Beta-packages from

    ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/lmuelle/i386/7.3/

*don't work at all* for me with "cupsaddsmb"...

Cheers,
Kurt

Hello,

I posted 2 weeks ago this problem and it is currently not working.
First thanks a lot for all the hints and helps.
In the attached file I have added (hopefully) all informations.
To summarize:
I want to setup a print server, which allows the user to
download the necessary files for new printers.
Installed are (on top of suse 7.1) samba 2.2.6_pre2 and cups 1.1.15_1.
Installed the printers, the adobe files, setup the printer,
and tried "cupsaddsmb -v 10a_HP8000".

(head of the used ppd-file)
pc010:/etc/cups/ppd # more 10a_HP8000.ppd
*PPD-Adobe: "4.3"
*% =======================================================
*% Printer Description File
*% Copyright 1992-98 Hewlett-Packard Company
*%========================================================
*% PPD for HP LaserJet 8000 Series
*% For Windows NT 4.0
*% === PPD File Version Information ====
*FileVersion:      "1.30"
*FormatVersion:    "4.3"
*LanguageEncoding: ISOLatin1
*LanguageVersion:  GERMAN
*PCFileName:       "HP8000_6.PPD"

*% === Product Version Information ====
*ModelName:     "HP LaserJet 8000 Series"
*ShortNickName: "HP LaserJet 8000 Series PS"
*NickName: "HP LaserJet 8000 Series PS"
*Product:       "(HP LaserJet 8000 Series)"
*Manufacturer:  "HP"
*PSVersion:     "(2014.108) 1"

The following error is writen in /var/log/samba/pc010.log
[2002/09/09 12:29:16, 0]
printing/nt_printing.c:move_driver_to_download_area(1469)
   move_driver_to_download_area: Unable to rename [WIN40/ADOBEPS4.DRV] to
[WIN40/0/ADOBEPS4.DRV]

The driver folder is their (it also used chmod -R 777 drivers ...).

The rpcclient error is in the attachment.

Could someone place a working copy on our ftp-server ?
It would be very helpfully for me to see a working cups/samba setup and
compare
it with my stuff.

Any hint/help is welcome !

Bye, Peer
