[Samba] nmbd not starting

hi,

if I try to start the nmbd-service with or without options like -D -d 2 -G 
... -n ... , I cannot see the service in [ps ax], only the smbd-service is 
starting and can be seen in [ps ax]

where can I look for the reason about this behavior - has anyone an idea ?
