[Samba] connecting mac os 9.1 client

We just got an imac on our network here and I need to connect it to my 
existing samba 2.2 server.  We have several windows shares running at 
the moment on a Redhat 7.2 machine running kernel 2.4.7-10.  The Mac 
client is running  OS 9.1  and is able to connect to the internet 
through  and receive DHCP from my Linux router\firewall.  I have ftp 
running on the server as a last resort so people can get necesarry 
files, but that is a pain in the ass - is there anyway that this mac 
client can login and authenticate through samba and get to the files?
