[Samba] Can Samba integrate with NIS?

I have a FreeBSD 4.5-RELEASE server running as an NIS slave and client. 
The machine is also accessed through Samba from windows PCs 
Is it possible to set samba to authenticate users with their NIS
username/password?
Do I still have to use smbpasswd?  Is there a way to automate, so NIS users
will automatically have Samba access?
