Samba 2.2.2 / Winbind / PAM / ACL-Support

I have followed the instructions at http://acl.bestbits.at for adding ACL 
kernel support to my Intel box running Suse 7.3.

The kernel appears to be working fine.  

I try to configure Samba using the following:

suse73:~/samba-2.2.2/source # ./configure --with-pam --with-winbind 
--with-acl-support

I get this error towards the bottom of the output:

checking checking if large file support can be enabled... yes
checking whether to support ACLs... no
checking whether to build winbind... yes
checking configure summary
configure: error: summary failure. Aborting config

Now this tells me that ACL support isn't there, but it IS.  When I run:

suse73:~/samba-2.2.2/source # ./configure --with-acl-support

The configure runs just fine with no errors plus at the bottom of the output 
I can see it say "checking whether to support ACL's...yes"  Am I not able to 
run with all these options at the same time ??
