OK, I fixed some stuff on the laptop (disabled the IR port in the bios, made
sure only TCP/IP was installed, removed dialup networking, etc.) and now
nmblookup -M only lists the samba server internal IP.

Network browsing behavior has slightly changed. Now BOTH machines show
SCULLY and DOGGETT, but neither shows MULDER. ?!?

/usr/local/samba/var/locks/browse.dat still has not changed (see below),
still no listing for MULDER. :(

nmblookup -A mulder now shows:

Looking up status of 192.168.0.2
        MULDER <00> - M <ACTIVE>
        XFILES <00> - <GROUP> M <ACTIVE>
        MULDER <03> - M <ACTIVE>
        MULDER <20> - M <ACTIVE>
        XFILES <1e> - <GROUP> M <ACTIVE>
        SKINNER <03> - M <ACTIVE>

nmblookup -A doggett now shows:

Looking up status of 192.168.0.5
        DOGGETT <00> - M <ACTIVE>
        XFILES <00> - <GROUP> M <ACTIVE>
        DOGGETT <03> - M <ACTIVE>
        DOGGETT <20> - M <ACTIVE>
        XFILES <1e> - <GROUP> M <ACTIVE>
        SKINNER <03> - M <ACTIVE>

This looks a little more normal correct?

Any other ideas on what could still be screwed up here? It's closer, but
not quite perfect.

Thanks for your help thus far!

Josh
