[Samba] ACT Printing problems

Michael,

I saw your post regarding printing problems with ACT, Windows 2000 and
Samba. Did you manage to fix it? I am having exactly the same problem and
receiving the same errors in my log file. I am trying to print to a
Laserjet 5MP printer via samba.

What I think is happening is ACT is trying to use the older LANMAN printing
subsystem and not RPC. As you mentioned, I too only have this problem on
one of my Windows 2000 machines, the others work fine. Interestingly
though, the problematic 2k box will refuse to use Lanman type printing (I
get the error, unable to connect message) and thus have to use RPC, which
doesn't seem work with ACT. I have tried using the disable spoolss command.
My logs:

[2002/02/20 12:27:08, 0]
rpc_server/srv_spoolss.c:api_spoolss_open_printer_ex(42)
   spoolss_io_q_open_printer_ex: unable to unmarshall SPOOL_Q_OPEN_PRINTER_EX.
[2002/02/20 12:27:08, 0] rpc_server/srv_pipe.c:api_rpcTNP(1200)
   api_rpcTNP: api_spoolss_rpc: SPOOLSS_OPENPRINTEREX failed.
[2002/02/20 12:27:37, 0] lib/util_sock.c:read_data(436)
read_data: read failure for 4. Error = Connection reset by peer

Cheers,

Ed Wilson
