[Samba] nt4+encryption

No, you do not have to recompaile.
Put "enrypted passwords = yes" in smb.conf (like you did), and setup 
an smbpasswd file. For this run
smbpasswd -a user
as root for every user who whants to have acces. I'm not realy sure 
if this will create a new smbpasswd file for the first user, so if 
the command fails, mail us again.

Use testparam to check your smb.conf and look where the smbpasswd 
file is stored.

I do not think so. But you may try "user"
