Hi Bill.

When you go with the Samba option, a good feature to add to your set up is a
UPS, we use APCC's Smart-UPS 1000, a great product when used with apcupsd.
It shuts down the Server safely when power is lost, and can shut down other
servers (you may decide to use a Linux router, mailserver, and so on too)
via your LAN.  It has many other features, like shutting down when battery
power reaches a % power remaining which you can set.

Keep this in the back of your mind, its really great.
