I can't tell you any thing about the error message. But the "adduser" 
you mention makes me curious. What is you samba setup like? 
My general hint: Start easy:
- create and test a local user on the samba box. Test if the user
  works under linux.
- Apply the registry key on the win machine to use plain text
  passwords.
- Try to connect.
If this works you can try more advanced things like encrypted 
passwords, the "add user skrip" parameter and so on. If this does not 
work: make your way through DIAGNOSIS.txt
