Here's my lpq output from the same command as above:

Printer: mopier at bluto (printing disabled) (dest text at mopier)
 Queue: 2 printable jobs
 Server: no server active
Status: job 'cfA668bluto.internal.denverdata.com' removed at 08:45:57.014
Rank Owner/ID Class Job Files Size Time
1 doug at bluto+690 A 690 123456789012345678901234 4
08:50:40

And, if I print an MS Word doc from a windows client (2K SP2) i see the
following:

Printer: mopier at bluto (printing disabled) (dest text at mopier)
 Queue: 2 printable jobs
 Server: no server active
Status: job 'cfA668bluto.internal.denverdata.com' removed at 08:45:57.014
Rank Owner/ID Class Job Files Size Time
1 doug at bluto+690 A 690 123456789012345678901234 4
08:50:40
2 doug at bluto+700 A 700 Microsoft Word - GEAE 1942
08:51:52

Truncated as expected.

BUT, it displays just fine in the printer queue dialog box on the client.

I think based on my evidence above that your statement that Samba "just
parses the output of lpq" is not correct. Either the client or samba is
probably only interested the job numbers output by lpq (?)

That said, look back at the list of OS/software versions I'm running,
perhaps my LDAP patched samba has more than just LDAP patches????
