Two things: It's correct that the entry is commented out on the other
machines, but can you clarify that these other machines have "wins server =
x.x.x.x" pointing to the first one? Secondly, have you tried setting an "OS
level" in the WINS server, to ensure it beats Windows machines in the
election? Try doing a "nmblookup -M -" on one of your linux boxes, and make
sure the WINS server is showing as the master.

To set a netbios name it's simply "netbios name = fred", and assuming this
means you haven't set it, I think that's your problem. If you're using WINS,
machines need netbios names.
