You can setup a separate config file for the user 'nobody' and take the
passwd sync stuff out of it...
; if there is a conf file for the user who is connecting, then
; load it...
config file = /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf.%U
This is what we do when we disable a user's email (IMAP) account by
putting a * in the passwd file for him/her.... We want them to still be
able to use network resources, we just want to shut off email access for
them. So, we have to prevent them from changing their password and
overwriting the * in the passwd file. It has worked well for us.
