Gentlemen,

I'm having problems with M$ Front Page 2000, and I was wondering if I could
solicit your assistance.

I got SAMBA set up--I'm using a Linux box as a Web and file server in my
apartment. There were a few installation snafus, but I finally got it right.

The essential nature of my setup is that my Web space has "two views". The
Apache server on the Linux box serves the pages over a DSL line, but I edit
the pages by mounting part of the directory tree on the Linux box using my
Windows ME machine. This scheme had been working for me flawlessly when I
had a Win98 Apache server.

After I got SAMBA set up, I tested it with a number of applications,
including Microsoft Visual C++, Word, etc. I made Visual C++ projects on the
remote machine, tried documents, copying files, etc. I was convinced
everything was fine. Then I tried Microsoft Front Page 2000, and it refused
to open existing Webs (in my case, it "opens" them just as files--there is no
interaction with the running server).

I searched Microsoft's Web to be sure I had the latest updates and so on.
And I came across this bug description:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q248/4/02.ASP

This problem is a *little* bit like mine. Anyway, I "downgraded" back to
Microsoft Front Page 98, and everything works fine now. Front Page 98 lets
me create webs, edit webs, etc.

The evidence suggests that something is wrong with Front Page 2000
(especially since all other applications work perfectly).

How would you suggest I proceed on this problem? If I collected a SAMBA log
file with the minimum to create the problem, would you be able to glean any
information from that?

Next week I will get going interacting with Microsoft as far as technical
support and a bug report, and I wondered what was the best approach.

Thanks, Dave.
