Samba 2.07 smbpasswd problem

Hope somebody out there can help.

I'm trying to setup Samba 2.07 on Solaris 8. It now compiles, builds and
installs cleanly, and creating a conf file is no problem, but when I
come to do a -

smbpasswd -a userone

I get the message -

make_sam_from_nisresult:NIS+ lookup failure: Database for table does not
exist.
Failed to add entry for user userone.
Failed to modify password entry for userone.

userone exists in the password and shadow tables that have been used to
populate NIS+, and doing a niscat passwd.org_dir shows the user
correctly. Anyone any ideas as I am a bit out of my depth.

Thanks in advance,

Chris.
