starting the smbd deamon...

hi,

i am running RH7, and i have samba installed.
when i try to start teh deamon, i get :

[root at Mars cgi]# /usr/sbin/samba restart
Shutting down SMB services: [FAILED]
Shutting down NMB services: [  OK  ]
Starting SMB services: [  OK  ]
Starting NMB services: [  OK  ]
[root at Mars cgi]# /usr/sbin/samba status 
smbd is stopped
nmbd (pid 5512) is running...
[root at Mars cgi]# 

nmbd has no problem to start, but smbd just wont..
i really dont know what to check anymore.
any idea's ?
