changing user passwords with smbpasswd

I think you need to sync your passwords. Here are some lines that I'm 
using in my smb.conf that may help...

        passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
        passwd chat = *New*UNIX*password* %n\n *ReType*new*UNIX*password* %n\n *
passwd:*all*authentication*tokens*updated*successfully*
        passwd chat debug = Yes
        password level = 1
        unix password sync = Yes

This is for a RedHat 5.2 system with shadow passwords and samba-2.0.3. 
It took me a while to get the correct password script, so if you have 
another OS, try setting debug to 100 and review the log files.
