Hi Jerry, hi Jeremy,

afer some internal discussion with Volker I convinced him that 
it's not the worst thing not to default "ldap connection timeout" to 
"ldap timeout" when that parameter was set explicitly. One good argument 
is the problem that is described in 
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4544 . There is no point in 
defaulting the connection timeout to the old ldap timeout because in the 
situation where a connection timeout occured because the ldap server 
host is *down*, then we currently run into a tcp timeout which is anyway 
much longer than the ldap timeout.

To cut a long story short: the patch from 
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3504 could be considered to 
be complete. Do you have any objections to check it in?
