Patch list for getting the v3-2-test and v3-2-stable back in sync

I tried to merge the patches Jerry proposed and there were some compiling
issues. Then I changed my opinion again and decided to pick only patches
which meet the criteria (more or less ;-).

I will revert the other patches in v3-2-test tomorrow.
If anything should go into 3.2.1 we can merge it from v3-3-test later.

If there are any suggestions for patches that should go into v3-2-stable
now, please contact me as soon as possible.
