The problem is not internal consistency within winbind, the problem is
that translating usernames is simply wrong s they often reflects in the
filesystem or in configuration files which we cannot translate on the
fly.
It's a poor way to address a problem, and I agree with Volker thatit is
like or worst then winbind use default domain.
I think the problem (no offense) is that Jeremy is not used to work with
different charsets for real and is not thinking about the consequences
of the "easy fix".

Look, if you give me a compile option to disable it in my packages I am
fine.
