Jeremy,

I'm seeing failure when installing Windows 2003 SP2
from a file share. Same extracted files install ok
from a 3.0.24 server.

What I see at the tail-end of the log is that the client
does an anonymous session set, connects to IPC$ and then does
a Trans2GetDFSReferral on the share on \elm\public. smbd
returns NT_STATUS_NOT_FOUND which is pretty much the error
that pops up on the client.

The 'host msdfs' option is enabled but the share itself
is not a msdfs root.

This failure is 100% reproducible. So I'm wondering if
that error code is correct for a non-msdfs root share.

cheers, jerry
