Also,
found this in the log:
[2007/08/07 03:56:49, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(911)
  '/disk0' does not exist or permission denied when connecting to [disk0] Error was Permission denied

Maybe worth noting that:

- Linux workstation is vmware virtual machine (fedora core 6)
- /disk0 is a mountpoint pointing to a newly created and added virtual disk

  When i use samba client i get the following error:

  [root at linux_server disk0]# smbclient   //192.168.0.4/disk0 -Uroot
Password:
Domain=[LINUX_SERVER] OS=[Unix]   Server=[Samba 3.0.23c-2]
tree connect failed:   NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME

  smb.conf contains:
[root at linux_server disk0]#   cat   /etc/samba/smb.conf
[disk0]
          comment = 110Gb disk
        path =   /disk0
        valid users =   root
        public =   no
        writable =   yes
        printable =   no
        log file =   /var/log/samba/%m.log
        hosts   allow = 192.168.0.

  when i try to access \\linux_server\disk0 from my winxp machine it just hangs!

  Firewall is off, and se linux is disabled.

  Any ideas please?
