I would first suggest looking at your network activity pattern, then
decide what's causing it.  If you configure ethereal to show the time
between packets, this can pinpoint the trouble-spot very easily.

Issues such as locking, oplocks and the like may also be playing a part
(and potentially the delaying of these packets due to an underlying
network fault, as has been suggested).
