[samba3-alpha23] Brand new local profiles

Hello,

I'm having trouble getting local profiles created for brand new users
logging in for the first time to a machine. I am running samba3-alpha23
configured for LDAP authentication, trying to log in Windows2000
Professional+SP3.

I am having a problem similar to the one described here:
http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/2002-November/083979.html
There is a workaround proposed in this thread, but it's definitely not
the correct way to fix this problem. Something else must be wrong.

When a user logs in for the first time to a machine I get the error
message:

"Windows cannot create profile directory \\filesrv\makris_k\profile.pds
You will be logged on with a local profile only. Changes to the profile
will not be propagated to the server. Contact your network
administrator."

I press the OK button on the error. Then this error window pops up:

"Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a
temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when
you log out."

I then press OK and get the default Windows 2000 desktop like the first
time a user logs in, and I can see a C:\Documents and Settings\TEMP
directory created, that is automatically removed when the user logs out.

I have properly joined the machine to the new Samba domain, and do not
get the error message on login if a profilePath entry is set in LDAP for
the user trying to login. In that case, if the profilePath entry points
to a valid empty directory
(e.g.\\filesrv\makris_k\.WindowsProfile.empty), a new roaming profile is
created, than can then be switched into a local one.

I also noticed that there was no response ever to this:
http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba-technical/2003-February/042484.html
...which was quite recently.

When I try to login, I see the following in the log file for the
particular machine:

[2003/04/23 15:17:30, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection(841)

Could this be a bug ? Can anyone verify the login behaviour described
above ?

Thanks,
Kristis
