Ummm...From the PDC howto....

In Samba 2.2, only the root account can be used to create machine accounts
like this. Therefore, it is required to create an entry in smbpasswd for
root. The password SHOULD be set to s different password that the
associated /etc/passwd entry for security reasons.

This may not have been in the 2.2.0 release, but has long since been
updated. Also it has been stated at least a dozen times on the mailing
lists.

Again, the has already been corrected in the CVS. The problem
was not an error code we sent back to the NT client, but rather than an
RPC failed, which led the Win2k client to another error.

Thanks for the feedback. We are trying very hard to help make
administration easier, and prevent confusion. Please be patient and
things will continue to get better.

Cheers, jerry
