Not likely, since I'm connecting to localhost (-S localhost), which
is defined in /etc/hosts.  Assuming that lookup didn't work, the
Mandrake system in question is also our DNS server, and AFAICT it
is working perfectly.

(using the system names of "BRAVO" and "DNS" for the IRIX and Linux
systems also didn't make a difference...)
