I think one reason is because you cannot browse and search in 
the mail archive for samba at ...
But on http://us4.samba.org/mailman/ you can find samba-technical...
two "mouse clicks" and you´re added to the list.

I think if samba at ... is added to http://us4.samba.org/mailman/, the traffic
in this list will slow down.
