hi chance,

yes samba (backed up with some shell scripts) can do this, have a look at
the archives on http://samba.anu.edu.au/listproc and also ask the same
question on samba at samba.anu.edu.au: there are several thousand people on
that list, whereas there are only about 400 on samba-ntdom.
