OK. This should be clearly documented somewhere.

I guess that our system has used rsync to copy from server to backup, but 
then cp to copy from backup to backup archive. And cp does not see changed 
metadata. (Maybe this is worth noting somewhere, even if it is not related 
to rsync.)
