configure 2.6.0 fails for Solaris

A couple of days ago I posted to this list a problem but an attachment
blocked forwarding due to size restrictions, pending a decision by a
moderator. Heard nothing since then, so I'll point to this problem
again without attaching config.log:

I was able to compile rsync 2.5.7 on Solaris 8 Sparc without hassles
using Sun's cc. The configure script for 2.6.0 fails because various
basic data types are not found during configure, for instance pid_t.
