Hi All,
After using rsync on a couple of reasonably high-perfomance
machines lately (and being very impressed - this solution is excellent)
- I decided to use this for a backup method on a somewhat slower network -

Basically I have two machines (one a PII with 64MB of ram), and another
a PIII 600 (192MB of ram) - both running turbolinux server 6.5 with a
nice 'n' stable kernel. - As you can see from the logs on the PIII
(which is acting as the server, the other machine sync's from it every
night) - I was having some problems with 'broken pipes' -and one of the
machines (normally the server) - would crash! (very unlike turbolinux, I
have never actually had this distro crash on me [I never got to see the
exact message on the screen] - uptime in the 100's of days -and only
ever down due to power failure or upgrade). I might also point out
these machines are running between a cheap hub. I ended up limiting the
bandwidth to 500KBytes/sec - and the problem has gone away (look further
down the logs).

The other network I am running this on (the one I never had problems
with) - has much faster specs - a couple of dual cpu's, 2GB ram, UW
SCSI, Intel NIC's and a nice Cisco Catalyst switch sitting inbetween. I
think rsync is an excellent piece of software, and this is not a
'problem quesion' (I have the problem sorted) - but as the subject
hints, I am curious to see if anyone else has had a similiar problem? -

Cheers,
             Andrew
