I'm trying to recover data from this dead hard disk.

It had minimal use, was in an external hard drive enclosure and showed 
no signs of life.

I've tried it in a Docking Station again no signs of life.

My only hope now seems to be swapping the external printed circuit board 
with one from an identical hard drive that has been decommissioned for 
other reasons.

If anyone has such a candidate for sacrifice or advice why this may be a 
futile exercise, I'd like to hear.
