I'm not an xfce user and this probably won't be of much use to you,
but on wmii I have the window manager notify my python script when
XF86Sleep or XF86Suspend (as well as XF86ScreenSaver and Ctrl+Alt+L)
is received then my script does the appropriate magic to lock the
screen (then again, I suppose most people don't script their window
managers...).
