[clug] Installing an Android OS onto a PC

I have stumbled across:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=kcp_and_ln_ar?docId=165849822

which sounds as though it is now possible to download Amazon's Kindle
Books without purchasing their gadget.

The flagged software-package is designed to be downloaded onto an Android
phone that uses Android 1.6.

I already own a cheap Android tablet (that uses Android 1.6), but have
limited technical know-how. The tablet's performance (in my hands) is
temperamental; wherever possible, I prefer using my desktop computer (and
a wired connection to the Internet).

Is there any documentation (that can be understood by a raw amateur) on
installing an Android OS onto a spare partition of the computer?

All pointer will be gratefully received.
