I don't know anything about SNMP but I got NUT running with an APC UPS over
serial with about two lines of config file modification... and then the
setup of the shutdown stuff and the comms with the other boxes wasn't too
hard - there's enough doco on it.  Just make sure that if you're using
different versions on different boxes that they all talk to each other - I
mixed old packages with compilations from latest source and had a problem
with that originally... Basically as long as all versions are >= 1.4 you're
ok.
