I've used snmptrapd to monitor snmp information from hosts before. You can
get it to log (using the -Lf <filename>), then have a script checking the
relevant logfile to shut the machine down when an entry appears with the
correct hostname and SNMP information.

Subject: [clug] snmp equipped UPS's

Hey
Does anyone have any experience with the UPS's that have an embedded snmp
agent?
I am just trying to work out what I need to run on my servers to query the
ups
and then perform shutdowns if needed. Or is it just simpler to use NUT on a
master and connect that to the UPS via usb or serial?

regards

Rob
