I hope you've got the id3 tagging off and vorbis native tagging
configured... grip in the past has had rather stupid defaults on this
and creates broken ogg files... Just a heads up check :)

What about `ls -lb`  ?
How about `ls -lN`  ?
...these as distinct from `ls -lq` which is the default ls -l uses when
you run ls with output to a tty. That said - Does `ls -l > foo` hang?

What, ultimately, is this problem character?
