Speakers

I'm planning on getting myself a new set of speakers for my PC / Video / Audio 
system.

I have a Creative Live (EMU10K1) soundcard, which has normal line out, plus a 
'digital' out.  My video just has line-out for sound, as does my TransACT 
box.

Cougar's most popular 5.1 speaker set is the Pure Digital ZXR-500, at $238.  
There is also a Hercules XPS 510 5.1 set for $175, and a Altec-Lansing AVS500 
4.1 set for $159.

Alternately, I could shop around at some of the hifi stores (Miranda HiFi 
etc).

I don't need high volume, but I do want quality - not over the top, but 
something I'm still going to be happy with in a few years time.

I have never used the digital out from the Creative Live soundcard, and don't 
know what is required to utilise it.

Any suggestions appreciated.
