Just one thing to point out:

All these entries are your firewall blocking DNS replies from your
primary DNS server.  There's a very good chance this is your problem, as
DNS timeouts take a while.

The other thing I noticed is you're logging in with your name and
password - I think all you have to do is login as 'ppp' then let pppd
(via chap-secrets) figure out who to authenticate as.  That's probably
unrelated and a matter of style though.  I can dig up my dialup settings
(not handy right now) if you want to look at another Linux setup for
calling Goldweb.
