There is a mostly working CIFS patch from Q that has received limited
testing, which finishes up the DFS support that was started in the CIFS
VFS a few years ago. It takes advantage of some of the ideas like
"shrinkable mounts" that were introduced a couple of months ago for the
similar experimental feature of the Linux NFSv4 implementation.

The patch from Q is large, beyond the scope of what could have been
integrated into 2.6.21., it is the 2nd on the list of big things to
merge into cifs for 2.6.22. It would be helpful if it were broken into
a few smaller pieces to facilitate review.

DFS support was added to smbclient a while ago (it is much easier to add
this kind of thing in userspace).

The freeze reported on the mailing list when trying to mount a deep dfs
share sounds like it is still a probable bug but needs to be debugged
further.
